PostSubject: Trip in new car   Mon Apr 23, 2018 4:56 pm

Just finished car trip---first in years--used part of the Natchez Trace, 50 mph speed limit----ridden it end to end on scooter=really not that interesting or any riding challenges.

Car bought, in case I have to or give up bikes/scooters because of age. Not there yet. It will make nice garage decoration in case.

Horrible weather, used heater, defroster, AC today after parking at McDonalds.

You do not use many muscles in car, naps are nice with reclining seats.

This car 2018 Mitsuibishi Mirage---paid with tax just under $15000---I paid for CVT Transmission, $1200---probably prefer shifting myself---Now get this mpg, US gallon, 49.8 first day, 49.7 today---figures off of computer. So if you are trying, 50 mpg possible. I drove normally, keeping up with traffic.

Fun=No.

Back to bikes/scooter for me. Just have to dress for it. Dog seems to prefer bike, too.

thats pretty good mileage - didnt know what the 'modern' mirage looked like so did a search and this youtube review popped up - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aCsNs3eYTE

whopper 1.2L 3 cylinder with 74 Hp (maybe that should be pony power?). the guy missed the point - until over 18 minutes into his review....

New, guaranteed, real car with AC, heat for cheep.

And it is different than the other 3 cylinder cars/ vans ---Geo Metro, Honda Beat 660cc mid engine sports car and Suzuki 550cc Van (given to me)----their motors sang with revs----new Mirage does not rev high 2000-2500 at highway speeds.....sound more like 4 cylinder/auto rental car--not so appealing.

New cars and toys are nice. Most car makers are using or going to CVT type transmissions. Many benefits with these. Great mileage from lower engine speeds and good acceleration from wide ratio of trans. Perform similar to SW but are much different in function.

New Honda Accords 1.5 or 2.0 liter turbo with CVT are getting 40 mpg. They are not small and have good power. Early Honda CVT were kind of jerky in operation but new ones are good.
