I have a 2013 Silver Wing ABS and love riding it!

My Swing is now at about 14,500 miles and I am planning my approach for the upcomning 16,000 servicing which I will do myself.

Question: Do you use round rollers or sliding rollers? ...and why?

I'm watching a couple of videos on youtube and am beginning to grasp the concept of how the whole thing works.

Any feedback is much appreciated!

Use Honda OEM parts.

Contrary to Mr Grinsel's opinion, a great many, if not most, folks here have switched from OEM roller weights to Dr Pulley sliding weights and have been very satisfied with the upgrade. OEM roller weights are 28gm and Dr Pulley sliders are available from Buggy Parts North West and come in 22gm to 28gm weights. Twenty six or 24gm sliders will give you a nice improvement in acceleration. Even if you only switch from 28gm rollers to 28gm sliders you'll notice an improvement.

I put sliders in and don't see any kind of wear showing, the rollers I replaced had significant flat spots and the bike had done only 16,000 miles. It ran perfectly fine on the rollers and the only reason I changed was that the slider concept looked better and many people on here raved about them. They are undoubtably better but not a massive amount, you certainly won't get the improvement on exceleration that you would get from fitting a nitrous kit, but it seems a bit smoother, a bit quicker off from the lights and engine revs are a bit lower at higher speeds. I can't comment on mpg because I've not checked because my riding is so variable.

This topic comes up regularly, usually from new members. I fitted Dr Pulley sliders, there is a noticeable improvement in acceleration, not fantastic, but, noticeable. I always get 60-63 m.p.g (imperial gallon). The 16000ml service is the ideal time to change rollers, as you are changing the belt . You might also consider fitting Iridium spark plugs, they are said to last 50,000mls. In the UK they are the same price as regular plugs.

I put a mix of 31g and 21g sliders in and to me that is the best all around for power and ride ability , and I have no issues with dr pullys sliders, no fitment issues at all.

Bill. How come you didnt just put in a full set of 26g sliders to start with? Is there any real world difference with mix and matching?

I already had a set of 31g and did not find any 26g so just bought 21g , it works great no issues. I bought a set of 24g and put in for 2 days did not like the way it felt , so put the 21g and 31g back in . so basically it just works, at the time I did not find any 26g they are always out of stock, so this is what I did. well to me it felt like it wasn't in its best toque range , it seemed to have higher revs but didn't pull as good as with the mix of sliders, not sure if that makes sense, but just didn't like the way it felt riding it.

Thanks Old Limey! Yep, you got me -- I am new to this scooter and biking in general -- only been riding for 5 years. Prior to that, I was 20 years old. I do appreciate everyone's input as I go through the stages of getting my bike maintained.

Another member had suggested I get iridium plugs (NGK Iridium IX CR8EHIX-9 Spark Plugs #3797) which I will definitely install at 16,000 miles. Also, when inspecting the spark plug area, and in removing the electrode cap/wire, I noticed that it has a 3-4 inch extender tube that leads to the plug's threaded cap. Does one need an extender on a torque wrench to reach them?

Everyone's feedback info along with the Honda Service Manual helps loads and is much appreciated!

Either a 4" or 6" extension will get you there.

I put my Iridium plugs in at 8,000mi and just changed them at 48,000 miles,
just a preventative arbitrary change, no issues.

Wear was light and clean, it's likely most riders will never need to change them again.

Hey Bill,

Just curious, what RPM are you seeing with a full-power acceleration?
Also, if you don't mind my asking, how much weight are you carrying with all gear and rider(s)?

Hey sidewinder pilot , well I'm at 210lb my wife is 120lb, I don't normally carry anything other than a couple of tools around . and I'm not sure on rpm on full throttle take off , I don't ride it like that much but with the 24g it just felt like it was higher revs all the time but really didn't fill like the power was any better , I ride it almost every day to work and on the weekend, and the mix of sliders just fills better power wise for all around ridding in town and HI way. I know a lot of people go with the 24g on this site and have good luck with them , but for my taste the 24g just fill to revi with no better results .

Hi Bill,

The 24g will give you better feel and performance IF you take off with full throttle all/most of the time.
If you are a part throttle guy it will seem like the rpms are too high for the amount of acceleration you're getting, sort of like when you delay shifting on a standard gearbox.

The combo you're using equals 26g, so you are right where many people choose to be weight-wise.

26g was my first change from stock, and I used that for 20,000miles.

Overall that weight of slider is the only change that most riders will make, and it's a good return on investment. No negative change in fuel economy, No additional stresses on the drivetrain, No problem with putting in stock Honda components when servicing.
But you will get better acceleration from stops and in traffic, and, a lower RPM at hiway speeds

Enjoy! small moped

I agree with what you are saying , I do go full throttle some times but mainly when a ape hanger is giving me that look. and I always pull away ahead, it really pisses them off Smile but for the most part I just pull away easy. . Bill
