I found a 2002 Silverwing with 6751 miles on Ebay---it cost me $3,000, and I must say, it looks like new, and runs great. Rode it 100 miles home, and it ran like a champ at 75 mph on the freeway. I had a Burgman a few years ago, and I think this Silverwing is a bit smaller and more responsive. I'm wondering if the belt should be changed after 8 years even if it only has 6751 miles??? I'd like to open it up and look at the variator and belt to see if they are worn or dirty---but haven't got my manual yet-----what do you think??? Is it hard to open these up??? EB

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you got a great deal on your new scooter. It dosn't take much time to check the belt, change the oil and filters and a few other things.

Check with your HONDA dealer to see if all the recall work has been done on your 2002. If not, they will do the recall work for free. All you need is your VIN number to check.

Welcome to the site and there are plenty of "Pictorals" in the "Pictorial Section" of the site. Sounds like you got a great deal. I would persoanlly change the belt and the tires, if they are original. But I'm just a bit careful since I don't like to walk.

Congratulations and welcome. I took a real hard look at the Burgman, but in the end I liked how the Swing felt. To me it also felt more narrow and nimble. Have fun with your new ride.

Burmans are nice but Silverwings are even nicer!

I bought a 2003 with 3800 miles last September. I checked the belt in January when I installed a J Costa variator (nice upgrade!) and could not see any signs of cracks or rot, so I am still using it.

I replaced the tires three weeks ago with Pirelli Diablos because the rear was worn out, not because of rot or cracking. So far, I am very impressed with these tires. The original IRC tires were not anywhere near as nice. With 6751 miles on your scoot, the rear tire is probably toast. You should expect to change it soon.

Something else that you could consider doing is to drain/replace the brake and radiator fluids. I have not done mine yet, and brakes and radiator both seem no worse off for having factory fluid still.

I am now at 7600 miles.

Thanks folks for your welcome---I really enjoy these forums and find them extremely useful. I'm always surprised at how much these riders know about the Silverwings-----I'm really liking the way this thing rides and performs---I had a Burgman for a few years, and the suspension on the Silverwing is at least 3 times better. After 8 years of sitting around, I need to go through it and change the coolant, brake fluid, belt, and tires----I haven't got my manual yet, and I can't seem to get to the coolant blottle----any help will be appreciated.....EB

Open the right hand glove box and remove the inside compartment and there you go, the coolant reservoir.
