| Interesting!!!
No idea really, Temps in the UK rarely get as low as 20F.
My limiting factor is Ice!!! If ice is visible or forecast then four wheels it is for me.
My riding gear is geared up for minus temperatures, (deg. C) and I always ensure I wear enough layers for a specific journey. (Nice thing about a maxi scoot is the ability to store extra kit). _________________ Doug

| The coldest day I rode my Swing last winter was 13 F. That was rather brisk, but manageable. I grew up in Michigan and we used to ride snow machines with temperatures below 0 F. All you need to do is cover all skin and add layers... _________________ 2007 Silverwing - "Growler" - with 17,000 miles and counting; Givi windshield, Givi top case with back rest, K&N air filter in a drilled air box, Leo Vince Exhaust, J Costa variator, HyperPro Springs, and Oxford heated grips. All I need now is a power commander, and a nitrous kit with a blower...
Or maybe a Kawasaki Concours 1400 with ABS...
or an ST1300...
Let's ride...

| Wow, you guys are tough or crazy,,lol. I have rode many times when its down to the low 50's F. But i think that is the lowest i would go. I Wear a sweat shirt and a leather jacket over it. I also have electric heated gloves for the cold days. Paul |

| Once early February this year ... temp was 23F... I was layered up ... had on my riding gear that is rated to -40 F or C ... (that is the only temp at which the reading is the same.... just a little side note for you...) started to Pine Bluff meeting all kinds of traffic. I know they all were thinking... "there goes one crazy man." About half way there.. I literally started laughing... I was as cozy as I would have been if I had been at home standing in front of a space heater.
When I started home it had warmed up to 32 F. I had to come out of a couple of layers. Dry cold is something I can dress for. If it is raining or snowing, it is not my cup of tea. Ice on the road is a complete deterrent for me to ride. It never got below the 23 F temperature here, so, I don't know how cold it has to get to stop me from riding. I will post that temp when it happens.

| Hey Gary i went by Rizon the other day and thought of you. What kind of riding suit do you have that is so good because my old one shrank till they are to small and I need another pair. I also use layers and ride as long as there is no ice but I have thought a lot about heated vest. David |

| This morning on the way to work it was 27F. Piece of cake... But I am planning on adding heated grips this month when I take her in for the 12,000 mile service. _________________ 2007 Silverwing - "Growler" - with 17,000 miles and counting; Givi windshield, Givi top case with back rest, K&N air filter in a drilled air box, Leo Vince Exhaust, J Costa variator, HyperPro Springs, and Oxford heated grips. | earlier in July, I think I got it down to 0.5 C. We have had the coldest Sept ever. We are still going to work in 5 C with daytime running out to "20 C plus" Within a few weeks we should return to more pleasant riding weather. By Jan/ Feb I will be looking for an Aircon I think LOL |

| I agree with the above poster who said around 50 is a good spot.. .LOL I rode last week and it was high 30's and my fingers were frozen. I sure didn't enjoy that feeling. I have good pants I just got and a good jacket. It was really only my hands that bothered me. I think with the 8k mile tune up I'm going to look into heated grips or a Givi windshield that would help to cover my hands from the wind... _________________ Coralee All who wander are not lost

| I've ordered Givi handlebar muffs. I had Bagster muffs on my X9 and swore by them since they not only keep hands warm but dry as well.
I'll post a report on the Givis whan I've fitted and used them for a week or so. _________________ Mike - Riding on the right - riding for pleasure! | Hedging my bets, Doug. I rarely used the heated grips and managed with summer gloves all year round. On the very few occasions it was so wet my gloves got wet i used the grips to dry them...... .....and I do like my gadgets. _________________ Mike - Riding on the right - riding for pleasure! | Being a car owner I see no reason to make myself miserable. I'll buzz around the neighborhood with the temps in the 40s F., but unless it's over 60 I won't even consider commuting to work on the bike. I live 50 miles from work, and I work up in the mountains in a ski resort town. It's not just the temperature: Even a hint of bad weather can result in icy roads up in the mountains, and I've almost been forced to find an overpriced hotel room a couple of times. |
