At the tire changing class with the Harbor Freight tire changer there
were a lot of people who needed their tires changed ... so I did not
take take any pictures of these steps.

Tools:
8 MM allen hex
22 MM socket
Torque wrench
Grease (I used Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease)
Phillips screwdriver -or- equivalent to fit axle bar holes on right side

Removal

1) Place Silver Wing on center stand

2) On left (axle bolt) side - Loosen (do not remove) the 8MM allen hex axle holder bolt
The axle holder bolt faces the ground behind the axle bolt, I laid on the ground to looses

3) On left side - Loosen 22 MM axle bolt

4) On right side - Loosen (do not remove) the 8 MM allen hex axle holder bolt

5) Support the scooter using a hoist or motorcycle jack
We used a motorcycle jack under the front fairing because it required VERY LITTLE lift to raise the front wheel

6) On left side - Remove 22 MM axle bolt

7) On right side - Pull the front axle out and remove the front wheel
We used a thin phillips screwdriver to fit in the holes to help turn and pull the front axle out

DO NOT USE FRONT BRAKE PAST THIS POINT
(To prevent closing the brake pad gap)

9) Hold tire (to prevent damage to the disc brake and ABS sensor) and carefully raise the front end till wheel clears fender

10) Remove tire

11) Remove the left AND right side collar from the wheel hub
I stored the side collars separately so they could be installed on the same side later

12) Optional: Inspect brakes

13) Optional: Inspect air valve condition

Installation

1) Wipe with clean lightly damp cloth
- Side collars
- Front axle
- Inside wheel axle area (careful for the dust seals)

2) Clean brake disc
Ensure no residue

3) Grease the side collars and install into the wheel hub

4) Install the front wheel while carefully inserting the brake disc between the brake pads
Becareful for the brake pads and ABS sensor

5) On right side - Grease the front axle and install
May have to move the wheel to align the front axle while it slides in
The front axle should be flush with the left side

6) Clean an excess grease from all areas.

7) Lower hoist or motorcycle jack

On left side - Install and tighten the 22 MM axle bolt (59 Nm or 43 lbf-ft)

9) On left side - Tighten the 8 MM allen hex holder bolt (22 Nm or 16 lbf-ft)

10) With the front brake applied, pump the fork up and down several times to seat the axle and check brake operation

11) On right side - Tighten the 8 MM allen hex holder bolt (22 Nm or 16 lbf-ft)

12) Remove from center stand and test drive brakes

Thanks to this great site, I just replaced both my tires with the Diablo tires front and back.
It tool me 15 min to remove the rear and about 10 min to remove the front.
The shop charged me $ 40.00 to install the tires on the wheels.
I bought the tires from the Super Store and they arived in about 4 days.

Dismounting and mounting the tires isn't all that hard either. With three tire irons and a couple rim protectors (can be made from milk bottle plastic) and either a large bench vise, big clamp or a board and a car the job can be done quickly. I break the bead with my bench vise, a thin piece of plywood on each side, crank the vise shut a bit and the bead pops off enough to get started with the tire irons. If I didn't have a big vise I could use a big C clamp or even put the wheel on the ground by my car's front tire, lay a short piece of 2X6 over the edge of the tire and ease the car onto the 2X6. I've done that with motorcycle tires in the past and it worked quite easily. Just two weeks ago when a friend needed new tires mounted on his Goldwing we did the job in my garage with those same tools. Saved him about $60 or half the price of one of the tires. Likewise you don't need any thing fancy to balance your wheels once the new tires are in place.
