| Hi, I would just like to make a post for an Earthquake Relief Site to make donations. We go through World Vision to sponser a child in need and decided to make a donation for Haiti. Here is the site address that we made a donation: http://donate.worldvision.org/OA_HTML/xxwv2ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?funnel=dn&item=1958776&ppi=29991502§ion=10324&go=item&xxwvCampaign=1120034I know things are tough for many due to the economy but maybe some are able to give something, if you haven't already. It is a huge tragedy that happened and it is thought that many thousands if hundreds of thousands have died. Maybe you can say a prayer for those too. I will make this a sticky just to keep this at the top. If anyone else has any other reputable sites please post them here. Thanks, JeffR _________________ Ride safe,

| Thank you JeffR for your kind thoughts and deeds. Things like this transcend all dividing politics, religions, beliefs and values, and just point clearly and hopefully compassionately to the common ground of human pain and suffering, and the desire for happiness that we all share.
I can tell you from personal experience also that a 7.0 earthquake is massive, having lived through one just like this in California in 1989. Maybe you were in the Bay Area at that time JeffR? That was the final straw for me and my family that got us out of California and landed us in New Mexico. The rest is history, as they say.
My prayers for the wellbeing of all involved. _________________ Matthew - outside of Madrid, New Mexico, USA; 04 dark rasberry red, Nelson Rigg CL-900 saddlebags, Vista Cruise, K&N air filter, Mobil 1, NGK iridium plugs, back rest mod (leroybeal.net), rotated (up) handlebars, mirror extenders/risers, Laminar lip and ears, Givi Flow top case, grip puppies, darkside Sumitomo rear tire, insole pads in gloves, Allyn air seat

| I experienced the Anchorage, AK 9.2 quake in 1964 and can tell you a big quake is one of the most awful natural disasters you can experience. My heart goes out to those poor people in Haiti. It seems unfair that those people have to suffer the consequences of one of the most corrupt governments in the Western hemisphere and now have endure this disaster. _________________ Big 'Wing: Goldwing 1500, Little 'Wing Silverwing 600 If you can't ride it, fly it, or sail it why bother?

Awful, indeed, but being a geology major (who gave up to get an actual JOB) I'd love to experience one. Well away from structures, and wearing a padded suit, of course.
Be careful of scams, and use well-established non-profits! I happen to be LDS ("Mormon") so I know that the LDS Church's Welfare operation is one of the most efficient and far-reaching in the world. Your donations will go directly to getting actual food, clothing, shelter and medical care to those affected. Not a red cent will be used to distribute any books or buy bicycle tires for the kids in the dark suits. I've watched a gigantic Antonov cargo plane, the world's largest aircraft, take off from the Salt Lake City airport loaded with disaster relief whenever anything "big" happens in the world. An awesome sight from the adjacent freeway, I can assure you. http://give.lds.org/emergencyresponse
Translate dollars directly into stuff AND ship it without even leaving the comfort of your creaky Walmart adjustable office chair. |

| Of course, if you're REALLY brave..... http://haiti.adoption.com/I got mine from Russia. Believe me, you have to have a screw loose to do an international adoption. I just happen to have a screw loose. Now I've got two teenage daughters whose screw are also loose to the point of falling out. But it's worth it. |

| You can donate $10 through your phone company to American Red Cross by texting "haiti" to "90999" Donation will be made by your cell phone carrier and added to your phone bill. Haiti is going to be a long time recovery mission. Scrams are gonna show up over time. Use the ones mentioned here or from other reputable sources. Scum bags are going to take advantage of peoples misery. _________________ If you are looking for an option to prolong your riding opportunities. | JeffR, thanks for posting on this subject. Ive had the good fortune to have done a mission trip to the mountains of Haiti a few years back to help install a water system. The people there were a blessing to me and a very humbling experience. We are so blessed in this country and are isolated from reality of third world countrys and thier struggle for survival. It makes me stop and wonder why God chose America for me to be born in because it just as well could have been in a country like Haiti. They struggled daily before the quake and now it isn't even imaginal what they are dealing with. They need our help, our compassion and most of all our prayers. I'm sure many on this site have experienced the same during their travels. Thanks again Jeff. Dick |
